Our story
I, Lacy, grew up on Camano Island, Washington leaving for the military in 2009. I moved back to Camano Island in 2014. I met Levi, who is from West Seattle, we got married and settled down in Stanwood. We have two kids that absolutely love living on this land. We have a few rescue dogs and lots of chickens. We are planning on adding more and more animals as time goes on.
We bought this 100 year old farmhouse and barn in 2018 out of Stanwood, Washington. The farm had about 300 dahlias in the ground, which I at the time, had no idea what a dahlia even was. The previous homeowners daughter educated me about the world of dahlias. They had been growing them here for over 60 years. We really connected to the previous homeowners, actually many Heichel’s, so much so that we decided to name our farm after them.
Now, fast forward 5 years later and we have about 1300 dahlias on our property. I fell in love with dahlias after we moved into this place. We love having events here, especially surrounding our flowers.
BACK STORY: This farm originated in 1924 when the Heichel's moved to Sunday Lake. They built the barn in 1934, using it for horses and cows. They sold the property in the 1950's to one of the Heichel brothers, Joe Heichel. Joe and his wife Lois lived here for over 60 years. They had a vineyard, many gardens and maintained the farm. Lois grew Dahlias bigger than her head, winning awards in the town fair. The Heichel's still help in the gardens and come to events here at Heichel Hill Farm.
We have worked day and night, getting this place back into shape and adore this property.
